TORONTO — Toronto’s Stephen Thomas Ltd (ST) has been awarded fundraising agency of record status from Dallas-based Susan G. Komen. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization. ST is an integrated full-service agency specializing in marketing and fundraising exclusively for the non-profit sector.
Colleen Wood, Komen’s Director, Direct Response Marketing said ST won the business because – of all the RFP responders – the Toronto-based agency presented the most realistic proposal to help the organization reach its target to double its fundraising revenue over the next five years, helping Komen move closer to its Bold Goal to reduce current breast cancer deaths by 50% in the U.S. by 2026.
“ST presented us with a thoroughly insightful strategic analysis of our fundraising challenge, along with some truly outstanding creative concepts to bring our brand to life and a plan to help us achieve our Bold Goal,” Wood said. “Our fundraising and marketing team felt an immediate connection with the ST personnel, who showed that they are clearly as committed to our goal as we are,” she added.
“We were genuinely moved by Komen’s mission and its Bold Goal,” said Paula Attfield, ST’s president. “Charitable fundraising is obviously part of our DNA at ST, but the scale, scope and reach of Komen’s mission is at a level very few organizations in the world can even aspire to. For us to be playing such a key role in helping Komen achieve its mission is a rare and challenging opportunity that we’re enthusiastically taking on with all our hearts and minds.”
Donna Richardson, director, fundraising solutions for ST, said the agency was well positioned to win the Komen business because of several factors, including “having experience in nationalizing multi-channel integrated consumer fundraising programs including direct mail, top-flight and innovative creative, and the strategy and business acumen to ensure the cost/benefit equation meets and exceeds client expectations. It was also because of our ability to bring big picture ideas, trends and a global approach. This is what we do; it’s what fuels our passion.”
